Old friend,
Did I ever tell you
I saw birds in winter?
How they nestled in snow, barefoot,
clothed only in feathers?
It was not what I expected to see after
having been out, then coming home
to the room we shared. Perhaps I caught
them unaware.
You welcomed me, and we shared meals.
I was not practiced, and I stumbled.
I didn't know how, but I tried to write
and study.
Now, years later, I remember the birds.
